General

The capacity of the scale is the maximum weight that the scale can measure.

Graduations are the increments to which the item is weighed - in other words, how accurate the scale is. The lower the graduations, the more accurate the scale is.

All Marsden Class III Approved medical weighing scales carry an 8 year warranty. All other scales carry a one year warranty. The warranty is from the date of purchase for faults due to material or construction defects; faults under this warranty are repaired free of charge.

All movable parts – for example batteries, cables and adaptors – are excluded.

It is the responsibility of the customer to return the product to our factory in Rotherham. Marsden will pay review the product and foot the return transport costs of your device. The 8 year warranty is applicable to all Class III Approved medical scales purchased after 23/10/2023. Purchases made prior to this date will hold the warranty which was live at the time of purchase.

FAQs

Medical

When obtaining a weight for monitoring, diagnosis or treatment of patients, it’s vital that the weighing scales used are accurate and reliable. For instance, most drug dosages are based on the weight of a patient, so an inaccurate weight can lead to an incorrect dosage – and this can be fatal.

Incidents where patients had been incorrectly diagnosed, or given the wrong drug dosage, led to the introduction of regulation – the NAWI Regulations 2016.

Under the NAWI Regulations 2016, scales are ordered by class. Class I scales are the most accurate; used for precise weighing where there is very little or no room for error. Most applications do not need Class I, or Class II scales; for most medical applications, a Class III Approved scale is suitable.

Class III weighing scales should be used to determine weight and Body Mass Index (BMI), for any medication, treatment, diagnosis or monitoring. To ensure that they’re correctly calibrated, they should be checked regularly (at least every 12 months is recommended) and routinely maintained. Any scales not giving accurate readings should be removed immediately.

If you need any assistance on finding the correct medical weighing scale for your environment, please contact us today on 01709 364296 or email sales@marsdengroup.co.uk.

Alternatively, we can arrange for one of our regional sales managers to visit your location to carry out essential analysis and provide demonstrations of our weighing equipment.

Here at Marsden, we understand that hospitals throughout the UK are increasingly implementing EPR systems.

For this reason, the vast majority of Class III Approved medical weighing scales are available with an optional extra of either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This ensures that your weighing equipment is future proofed and capable of connecting into EPR systems.

We love a challenge here at Marsden and because of this, we love to create bespoke weighing solutions for our customers.

If you have an idea for a medical weighing device which you are unable to find, please approach us with your idea and we would be more than happy to make your idea a reality.

Please contact 01709 364296 for more information.

We hold a high level of stock for all of our medical weighing equipment. This ensures that our customers are able to carry out minor repairs to the weighing apparatus and our highly trained Marsden engineers can prolong the life of your scale.

Marsden medical weighing scales are suitable for a whole range of environments, including but not limited to NHS hospitals, care homes, doctors’ surgeries and many more.

During our 90 years we have supplied our medical equipment to a whole plethora of environments, which is expanding every single day.

If a device is MDD Approved it means that the device meets strict safety requirements which are enforced in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC) is one of three directives which cover all medical equipment, used in diagnosis, prevention, monitoring or treatment.

All Marsden weighing scales are accuracy checked before they leave our warehouse. The devices are then ready to use as soon as the item is delivered without any further checks required.

On all industrial weighing scales, we have a calibration certificate listed as an optional extra. This is not an essential purchase and many companies elect to purchase one for their own internal records.

Please note that the calibration certificate should be purchased at the same time as your weighing scale.

FAQs

Veterinary

Our range of veterinary scales is a range of weighing apparatus that we have designed with the intention of weighing animals, commonly within a veterinary surgery. Ranging from small table top scales for weighing hamsters, guinea pigs and mice, to platforms for the largest of animals.

A pet’s weight can be the first and sometimes the only indicator of health problems. According to specialists ‘pet obesity is the number one issue facing vets’. Obese animals can encounter breathing problems, as their lungs are forced to work harder to move their weight. In cats, hepatic lipidosis is a liver disease associated with obesity.

Each veterinary scale within our range has been designed to be different. Finding the right scale for you will depend on what you are weighing, the environment that you are weighing them in and how large the base needs to be.

For help finding the correct Marsden scale, please contact us today at sales@marsdengroup.co.uk.

A common question that we get here at Marsden is from concerned pet owners or veterinary surgery staff querying if their animal will fit on the scale.

Without physically seeing your pet, this can be a hard question to answer. However, we would always recommend taking a look at the base dimensions of the item on the product page. From these dimensions, you should begin to develop a greater understanding if this will be suitable for the animal in question.

Here at Marsden, we understand the importance of weighing your livestock.

For this reason, we are able to adapt our range of industrial weighing equipment to make it suitable for use on a busy farm. Contact us today to speak about the options available, 01709 364296.

If you are a registered animal charity and you wish to take advantage of this discount, please order by calling 01709 364296, or email sales@marsdengroup.co.uk with your charity name, charity number and the scale(s) you are interested in purchasing. Please note that we unfortunately cannot honour this retrospectively.

FAQs

Service

As the manufacturer of weighing scales, we recommend that all scales are serviced at least once a year to ensure that they are weighing within the defined tolerance of the device. However, there is no legislation that dictates that weighing devices must be regularly serviced.

However, this figure does vary depending on the environment in which the scale is been used and how frequently the devices are used. If the scales are situated in a high traffic area, we would recommend having them accuracy checked more frequently.

If a weighing device is Class III approved (alternatively known as Trade Approved) and the seals on the device are broken, either for a repair or recalibration, the device will then have to be reverified.

For all Marsden equipment, reverification can only be carried out by a highly skilled Marsden engineer or trading standards.

A comprehensive procedure is carried out to reverify a scale, this is broken down into a variety of tests. Linearity and hysteresis, tare (if applicable), repeatability and eccentricity test. All of which are described in detail in EN45501:2015.

Once this process has been carried out, the engineer will then complete the relevant paper work and the scale is once again verified.

If you would like to arrange a service visit on your weighing equipment, please call 01709 364296 or email service@marsdengroup.co.uk.

Our dedicated service team can then talk you through the process and make you aware of any associated costs.

Based in our head office, we have an in-house technical support department. Our team are experts in their field and are able to troubleshoot over the phone, arrange repairs and suggest cost-saving alternative solutions if required.

To speak to our technical support department today, please call 01709 364296.

A PPM is an acronym for Planned Preventative Maintenance.

If you have taken out a service contract with Marsden, your PPM visit will be scheduled by our internal service department to find a mutually appropriate day.

On the day of your PPM visit one of our nationwide team engineers will arrive at your site, carry out the maintenance visit and all of the relevant documentation will then be raised and issued to you.

We are ISO9001:2015 accredited and qualified to undertake initial verification and re-verification of weighing scales under NAWI Regulations 2016.

As a benefit of taking out a Marsden PPM contract, you will gain access to our client portal.

This is an online hub where you can track your assets, download certificates and even request a call out to repair your weighing scales.

Marsden are capable of servicing and accuracy checking any weighing device, regardless of manufacturer.

Marsden engineers are capable of repairing, recalibrating and reverifying all Marsden weighing devices.

However, should a Marsden engineer come across a different brand of weighing device need recalibrating and reverifying this will need to be carried out by the scale’s original manufacturer, an approved third-party or Trading Standards.
