What is a body composition scale?

A body composition scale is a weighing scale that provides multiple measurements giving you a clearer image of body health that simply taking a weight cannot provide.

Body composition scales use bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to estimate the fat content of your body. When you step onto the scale, a very safe and very small electrical current passes through your body. Electrical current flows through water, fat and muscle mass at different speeds, and therefore the scale can calculate how a body is composed of these elements based on the speed of the current.

What readings do Marsden body composition scales provide?

This scale now provides the following readings: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Body Water (TBW), Fat Free Mass (FFM), Fat Mass (FM), Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Mass (MM), Protein Mass (PM), Extracellular Water (ECW), Intracellular Water (ICW), Skeletal Muscle (SM), Visceral Fat Area Level (VFA), Metabolic Age (AGEM), Weight and Body Mass Index (BMI). The scale will also give you an overall health score.

Who uses the MBF-6000 Body Composition Scale?

The MBF-6000 provides highly accurate readings for gym and slimming club members. The scale is also portable (an optional carry case is available) for use by mobile physicians, physiotherapists, nurses or personal trainers. Dieticians also like this scale for its ease of use and comprehensive body composition readings.

Why should I choose the MBF-6000?

If you need an affordable, portable body composition scale, choose the MBF-6000. It’s easy to use and this version provides all body composition readings on a print-out.

This 300kg capacity scale was developed by Marsden and Hull York Medical School. It is Class III Approved - therefore approved for medical use - and is also approved under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC).

The MBF-6000 has Hold and Tare functions. Hold stabilises the weight reading on the indicator and Tare removes unwanted weight.
